Weehawken Today

The Township at a Glance

Weehawken is less than 1.5 square miles in total and about a third of that — is water.

That said, Weehawken packs a lot in with literal highs and lows, from the waves lapping at the waterfront of the Hudson River Walkway to the cliffs that overlook the Manhattan skyline and deliver iconic views that stretch from the GW Bridge to the Verrazzano-Narrows and the Statue of Liberty.

With easy access to buses and ferries, NYC is at our doorstep, with trips to midtown taking 8-10 minutes by boat and trips by bus in about 15-20 minutes — without traffic. In fact, in a 2020 New York Times article about a couple that had recently relocated to Weehawken, the area was described as “…a commuter’s dream.”

We have neighborhoods, too: The Heights, Uptown, Downtown/The Shades, The Bluff, Library Hill, The Valley, and the Waterfront communities of Port Imperial and Lincoln Harbor.

Read on for recent updates, a peek at upcoming projects, and a guide to the schools, municipal resources, and all the businesses in town.
